About our Program
Team Global Connections 2009, part of the University of Oregon's Environmental Leadership Program, has developed an innovative lesson unit that utilizes technology, theory, and the scientific process to connect fifth grade students in Eugene, Oregon with their student peers in Lethbridge, Alberta.
In teaching about the impacts of climate change on our planet's glaciers, students are given the opportunity to learn through inquiry, perform experiments, deepen their understanding of the earth's natural processes, and participate in a cross-cultural dialogue intended to broaden student's perceptions of humans relationship to the environment.
How to get involved
A challenging component of our unit is our goal for cross cultural dialog about climate change. To be as successfull as we would like, we need other teachers to get involved. We have set up the resources to help facilitate conversations across borders but we need your participation.
Our students in Eugene are eager to talk to other students their age in a different country and we can make this happen through our blog. This link is an example to one our week's class participation, http://globloggers05.wordpress.com/. Each week's class will have a separate corresponding blog that links up with an international class. The calendar for communication can be found here, Blogging_Calendar
